On the Map is a monthly magazine ($14.95) produced by the not-for-profit organization MAPgroup (Many Australian Photographers Group), which seeks to cover a variety of Australian issues via documentary photography, particularly issues that might not be picked up by the mainstream media. Its focus is particularly on cultural, social, and regional issues.

MAPgroup is made up of photographers with a range of experience, from amateurs to award-winning photographers. As well as putting the spotlight on key issues that the group has identified, the magazine supports emerging Australian documentary photographers by helping them gain exposure in the industry.

On the Map provides coverage of the projects their photographers are working on, particularly current and forthcoming exhibitions. Featured in the September edition are images on the issues of drought, the impact of asbestos, as well as an extended feature on the 2013 ANZAC Day ceremony. Another extended feature towards the end of the magazine is ‘Collections’, an interesting group of images on the theme of ‘Shopping Around’. The final section of the magazine, ‘In Focus’, features a different photographer each month. This issue puts the spotlight on Susan Gordon-Brown and her informal portraits.
