On Saturday the Degree Pathway students had their Research Seminar at the College, giving oral presentations of their semester-long research projects.
Their topics covered a wide range of art, documentary, and commercial photographic practices and aspects of visual culture, from the revival of interest in Romanticism in contemporary Australian art, to postcolonial identity and Australian representation at the Venice Biennale, the politics and representation of women’s boxing, the history of the built and social environments of Smith Street, Collingwood, the resurgence of bespoke craftsmanship in post-industrial societies, and a typology of clowns, to mention a few.
The feedback panel, comprising Dr Michael Coyne, Dr Hugh Hudson, PhD candidate Hoda Afshar, and Mauro Risch, was impressed with the high level of research and originality of analysis demonstrated, and was delighted by the engaging way in which all the presentations were delivered.
