Today PSC and the photography community mourn the loss of a leading Australian commercial photographer, Ian McKenzie.
Ian was well known for his love and passion for photography. He was a leading commercial photographer with a career spanning over 40 years. He worked mainly in the corporate, architectural and industrial sectors.
Ian was a member of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Photography) since its inception in 1967. He was a committed and involved member of the institute and held many positions of leadership including: State President of Victoria, National President, National Honours & Ethics Committee Chairman and Chairman AIPP Commercial Group. In recent times Ian was involved in establishing the National Mentoring program and expended a lot of energy travelling across Australia ensuring the new program was a success. For his work with the institute he was awarded a Fellow, AIPP, Hon, Fellow AIPP, and a Master of Photography.
Ian was a proud and loyal supporter of PSC, a member of the PSC Course Advisory Committee and a profound believer in the importance of high quality photography education.
In 2014 Ian was recognized with an Order of Australia not only for the driving energy that he put into photography but also for his work in a number of other areas. He was a member of the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Commodore of Ocean Racing Club of Victoria, Board member of Victorian Foundation for the Survivors of Torture and was President of M.G. Car Club of Victoria.
In remembering Ian's extensive career and many years of contribution, Michael Coyne said, "Ian was a fierce defender of high quality photography and was not afraid to have an opinion".
