This year the Pathway Program students made photobooks in their Summer Intensive subjects. Using InDesign for the layout, they accompanied their photography with poems, stories, interviews, and profiles they wrote themselves. There was considerable experimentation with the design elements of fonts, headings, and mis-en-page, as well as consideration given to bindings and covers. The aesthetic choices were as eclectic as the students’ interests are varied, ranging from classic, cloth-covered hardback to zine-like formats. It was a valuable experience in writing, self-publishing, and book production.
